Renewable Fuels Nebraska Calls New E15 Equipment Rule a Win for the Industry

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA — Today, Renewable Fuels Nebraska (RFN) welcomed a long-overdue rule change across the state that will recognize existing E10 fuel dispensers as compatible with E15 blended gasoline.

The rule change is modeled after Iowa’s commonsense approach and developed with support from the Governor’s Office, the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s Weights and Measures Division, the State Fire Marshal, and Growth Energy.

Renewable Fuels Nebraska Executive Director Dawn Caldwell issued the following statement:

“Nebraska farmers, producers, and drivers all benefit when E15 can reach more pumps without unnecessary red tape. If a dispenser can safely handle E15, retailers shouldn’t have to replace it just because they’re switching from E10.

“We’re grateful to Governor Pillen’s office, the hardworking team at Weights and Measures, the State Fire Marshal, and our partners at Growth Energy—especially Reid Wagner, former executive director at the Nebraska Ethanol Board—for working with us on this important change to boost consumer choice, increase demand for Nebraska corn, and strengthen our bioeconomy.”

E15 is a fuel blend containing up to 15 percent ethanol and is approved for use in more than 95 percent of vehicles on the road today. Nebraska already has an E15 Access Standard in place. Recognizing that UL 87/87A dispensers approved for E10 can safely handle E15 will make it easier and less costly for retailers to offer E15 without replacing equipment that already can do the job.
